    1. What factors inspired you to go into business with Emu Oil as your star ingredient? How long have you been in business?

If you were to ask me why I started raising emus and began Thunder Ridge Emu Products I really couldn't give you a definite answer. It's like I woke up one morning and I was possessed with this idea. Everyone was on this get healthy-eat healthy kick and I thought the emus would be the "new best thing". I was blinded by enthusiasm and knew in my heart how wonderful this bird was – the Australian Aborigines have know for years – so I set out to change the world. I thought it would be so simple!

I bought my first birds in 1993 and started raising them on our Virginia farm. I thought I would introduce and supply health conscious Americans with the low fat red meat as an alternative to traditional beef products. It did not take me long to realize that the oil from the emu was the real prize. I started my products company in 1999 and spent the next 5 years trying to educate people on what an emu was and the benefits of both the oil and the meat. It's not been easy or fast as I first thought but the educated consumer is very aware of Emu Oil and once they try it we usually have a customer for life.

Emu Oil is made up completely of essential fatty acids and is most like the oil our bodies produce. These essential fatty acids have proven to be the nutrition your skin needs. It also has anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, anti-aging and healing properties which expedite recovery from stiff, swollen joints, burns and chronic skin conditions. Loaded with antioxidants, Emu Oil slows down the aging process and in some cases actually reverses it. A miracle? We think so!!

2.How many products make up your line? What are the price points and where are your products sold?

Thunder Ridge currently has 16 different personal care products on the market with 3 more on the drawing board that we hope to introduce this year. We can take care of you from the top of your head to the tip of your toes.

Thunder Ridge Emu Products are currently being sold through national and international distributors, health food stores, mass marketing, medical professionals, salons, spas, catalog and internet sales.

The suggested retail price on a 2 oz. bottle of pure Emu Oil is $17.00. You can check our website for monthly specials.

    3. From where is the Emu Oil extracted. How do you process the oil in order to preserve its fatty acid content?

The fat, which is eventually refined into oil, is obtained when the bird is processed for the meat. The fat is flash frozen and sent to a refining plant that is certified by the American Emu Association. There it goes through several steps before it can be certified and is ready for distribution. All of the oil distributed b y Thunder Ridge Emu Products is refined to an edible grade and is completely safe to use on wounds, for skin care or to take internally.

4.In addition to Emu Oil, what other beneficial natural ingredients are used in your product formulations?

Thunder Ridge Emu Products has just recently gone through a complete reformulation process and are now completely drug, chemical and paraben free. We were fortunate to connect early on with a company in Oklahoma that is one of the largest producers of organic Aloe Vera in the country. Emu Oil, other essential oils and Aloe Vera blend well together and make outstanding products.
